WELCOME TO NUTTREE GREAT DANES!!

We have been breeders and exhibitors of Great Danes since 1977, specializing in fawns and brindles. Our names are Mel and Janie Pronto. We live in Powhatan,Virginia, which is on the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia. We have been members since the 1980's of the Great Dane Club of America, the Great Dane Club of Metropolitan Washington, the Virginia Kennel Club, and the Virginia Federation of Kennel Clubs and Dog Breeders.

When we breed a litter, it is to add a new family member to our family and possibly yours. We breed for health, temperament and beauty. We require that every puppy that is born in our house have the opportunity to spend their entire lives as an important family member, be it in our family or yours. Please check out a sample of our purchase agreement and guarantee and guidelines that we have put together for the proper care of our puppies.

We also have included a memorial page dedicated to the dogs who made it possible for us to have the dogs that we have today and a page of fun photos from years gone by. Nuttree’s Tiger’s Eye, born July 19, 1998

(Ch. Nuttree’s Saint Patrick x Nuttree’s Aspen Colorado). Tigger's show career garnered her two points and ten reserves breeder/owner/handled. Tigger is OFA Hips "Good", OFA cardiac normal, eyes normal and OFA thyroid normal. CHIC #21594 Tigger's was bred to Ch. Ch. Nuttree's Sydney, born September 19, 2000 (Nuttree's Coopers Hawk x Ch. Nuttree's Shamrock). Sydney finished her championship requirements by being awarded Best of Opposite sex over 3 specials bitches on October 29, 2004, handled by her proud dad, Mel!!! Syd is our 7th totally breeder/owner/handled Champion. Syd took a break from her show career to whelp a litter of puppies sired by Ch. Harley D. Hardt's Traveling Man born June 12, 2003. Syd's son, Mars is living with us. Her 2nd litter sired by Ch. Anandane's Top of the Charts produced one daughter and five sons. Her daughter Mallory is living with us. Nuttree's Mt. Shasta, born June 27, 2001

(Ch. Nuttree's Saint Patrick x Ch. Nuttree's Capricorn). Shasta's show career thus far has only resulted in "reserves":-( Shasta was bred to Mars and produced "Pumpkin" October 21, 2006. She is OFA hips "good", OFA cardiac "normal", CERF eyes "normal", OFA thyroid "normal", CHIC #17214.

Nuttree's Bel Air, born March 30, 2002

(Ch. Harley D. Hardt's Traveling Man x Ch. Nuttree's Shamrock) Belle was stricken with hypertrophic osteodystrophy (HOD) at three and a half months of age. While Belle recovered from the acute effects of the disorder, she did experience stunting of her growth and a shortening of the long bones in her legs. However, her playful and outgoing attitude combined with her gentle and stable temperament make her a joy to live with . Belle is OFA Thyroid "normal"

Nuttree's Men r from Mars, born June 12, 2003

(Ch. Harley D. Hardt's Traveling Man x Ch. Nuttree's Sydney). Mars is our only male and is keeping the "girls" on their toes. His favorite companion (the only one who really enjoys trying to keep up with him) is his older half-sister, Belle. Mars is being owner/handled in the Bred-by class and currently has 13 points with one major!. Mars is OFA Thyroid "normal" , OFA cardiac "normal" and eyes CERF "normal", PennHip ldi .26, rdi .32 "no evidence ot djd", Chic No. 35972.

Nuttree's O'Mallory, born March 17, 2006 (Ch. Anandane's Top of the Charts x Ch. Nuttree's Sydney). Mallory was the only girl in her litter which made her an automatic "keeper". Nuttree's Pumpkin Patch, born October 21, 2006 (Nuttree's Men r from Mars x Nuttree's Mt. Shasta) Mars and Shasta truly blessed us when their litter of one turned out to be a very pretty little girl. As a singleton, Pumpkin, was welcomed by her extended family immediately. Mallory has been teaching Pumpkin the "showdog ropes" and as a result Pumpkin loves the show ring.
